Innisfree Wheelers @ Orihuela

De Innisfree Wheelers from Sligo in the North-West of Ireland booked their first cycling holiday on the Costa Blanca. They used the cycling holiday services of Ropa Cycling, through the mediation of board member John Greene who has known the charms of the region for a long time. The stay at Hotel La Zenia in Orihuela Costa, right on the sea, was the ideal base for the collaboration with Ropa Cycling Bike Rental and the guided Ropa Bike Tours. More than 20 Irish sportsmen and women were spoiled for a whole week in three cycling groups, depending on their target riding speed.

With group 2 of the Innisfree Wheelers a 60 km excursion was made along the beautiful reservoir 'Embalse of the Pedrara'. This lake provides a large part of the Costa Brava region between Murcia and Cartagena with water for the many vegetable and fruit plantations via an impressive canal system. At one of the lookout posts, the group led by Gino De Weirdt took time for an atmospheric photo.

With group 1 a cycling tour was made to Succina. The origins of Sucina date back to prehistoric times. There are many remains of Iberian en Roman settlements, but the foundations of the current village date from 1744. It was therefore a nice opportunity to take a photo with the local church on the square Innesfree Wheelers.

Visiting Spain on the Costa Blanca also means that you have to plan a trip to one of the seaside resorts. From Orihuela Costa, the Innesfree Wheelers toured to Pilar de la HoradadaThe beautiful town on the coast has many assets, besides the many terraces on the waterfront, the statue The Toro School who welcomes you at the entrance of the city. Thanks to Marc Noben for the guidance and the photos.

Time for a pleasant stop along the way, with coffee, tea and delicious freshly baked waffles
